Academic Overview

Program Overview

Modern CT and MRI scanner diagnostic radiology suite with radiologic technologist at Chirayu University Hospital

Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology is the health profession concerned with the use of radiation and imaging to diagnose injury and disease. From plain film X-rays, imaging has grown into a wide array of techniques including digital X-ray, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography, Angiography, DEXA bone densitometry and nuclear medicine and DSA. Medical imaging is now among the most dynamic and in-demand fields in clinical medicine.

Radiographers and imaging technologists are the heart of modern medicine. They operate technologically advanced equipment, apply radiation protection and safety principles, understand the structure of the body and the effects of disease, and act as the primary link between patients, radiologists and the wider care team.

As imaging procedures grow more complex, the profession needs competently trained people who can maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. A qualified imaging technologist is skilled in both diagnostic and interventional radiology.

Core Strengths

Program Highlights

Full year of internship: The 7th and 8th semesters are a 2,400-hour clinical internship, with a minimum stipend should be provide.
Multi-modality training: X-ray, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, ultrasound with colour Doppler, mammography, angiography/DSA and DEXA.
Hospital-linked learning: Institutions must have practical exposure through a hospital or medical college handling at least 100 investigations a day, including CT and MRI.
Competency-based: Lectures, tutorials, problem-based and case-based learning, seminars, clinical conferences, e-learning and a research project.
Lateral entry: Diploma holders in medical imaging technology or radiography can join the 3rd semester.
Specialize further: A 2-year M.Sc. (MMRIT) with elective specialisations in CT, MRI or Breast Imaging Technology.
