Academic Overview
Program Overview
Nutrition is a vital part of well-being and growth. Better nutrition is linked with stronger immunity, safer pregnancies and deliveries, lower risk of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, and longer lives. A dietitian-nutritionist applies the science of food and nutrition to promote health, prevent disease and treat it, for individuals, groups, communities and whole populations.
The B.N.D. (Honours) covers human physiology, fundamentals of nutrition, biochemistry, food microbiology, nutrient-drug interactions, maternal and child nutrition, public health, and sociology and psychology in healthcare. Students also build a foundation in food analysis and research methods, and learn medical nutrition therapy: turning nutrition science into dietary advice for specific medical conditions.
Demand for the profession keeps rising because of the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, lifestyle change and an ageing population.
