Academic Overview
Program Overview
A Health Information Management (HIM) professional is one of the key people in a healthcare organisation, responsible for collecting, maintaining, analysing, protecting and sharing patient health information, in both traditional and digital form. This information is essential for delivering quality care.
The World Health Organization has stated that how well health information is collected, managed and used determines how effectively a health system can detect problems, set priorities, find innovative solutions and allocate resources. HIM professionals act as a bridge between clinical, operational and administrative functions, and play a vital role in integrating information technology and digital health solutions.
Good health records support continuity of care, health insurance, statistics, research, healthcare administration, policy formulation, public health management and medico-legal cases.
